POWER!

»What does power do?« we ask in the new dance theatre piece by the Junges Tanztheater Corinna Clack.

Children, teenagers and young adults recognise power as part of their everyday lives, even if they don’t always use that word. They ask who is in charge, who makes the decisions, and how they can empower themselves.

Power – what is it, anyway? What does it do to us, our bodies, our feelings and our relationships with ourselves and others? Who decides on timetables, the pressure to perform, beauty ideals, what is considered normal, and who gets to call the shots in our group and who doesn’t? Social media, politicians, the patriarchy, Mum, our imagination or me? And what can WE actually do? Can we be the ones who call the shots in our lives, our self-image and our time? Power can sometimes make us angry. Especially when it’s distributed and used unfairly.

To explore this, we want to research, dance, write, paint and make music with 70 people with and without disabilities, aged between 8 and 32, accompanied by a live band. A piece about power and self-empowerment. It will be loud, it will be tender, it will be raw and red, it will be colourful and beautiful.
