MisaTango

In 1996, Martín Palmeri dared an experiment when he combined tango and Latin liturgical text. Sacred cadences and elements of tango argentino blend into his »Misa a Buenos Aires«. The choir follows the liturgy (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei), while piano, strings and bandoneon revive the sounds of tango nuevo. Palmeri allows the two worlds to coexist: the choir carries the text, the instruments deliver intensity and colour.
The work is paired with a mass composed by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.

Bachchor Heidelberg and Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg have enjoyed their close collaboration for many years, shaping this town’s music life. The 2026/27 concert season brings the dedicated amateur choir together with the orchestra for a particularly varied programme in four concerts, presenting a wide panorama of the fascinating range of sacred music.
