The Hearing
The hearing is the most important element of the German asylum proceedings. It is the moment when applicants for asylum encounter persons who hear them in order to take a decision on the basis of the situation that has been described. Interpreters play a crucial role: they follow strict rules as they translate under enormous time pressure. Anne Münch has written a text for theatre that impressively combines the perspective of the interpreter with that of those who are hearing the case and that of the applicant.
Ron Zimmering has, amongst others, most recently staged productions at Humboldt Forum Berlin in 2024 and at Staatstheater Nuremberg in 2025. He has a long-standing collaboration with writer Anne Münch.
