Andorra
Play by Max Frisch
Theatre
Andri is different. At least that is what some of his contemporaries say in Andorra. In fact, more and more people keep saying so until Andri himself starts believing it. And when suddenly they say that he isn’t any different after all, it’s too late. He cannot escape fulfilling the stereotype he has been ascribed with his entire life.
Max Frisch’s social drama in twelve acts had its world premiere in 1961 but retains an oppressive currency. Director Monique Hamelmann explores the dynamics of hatred that is on the one hand directed at alleged threats from outside and on the other at marginalised groups within a community. How can we address such structures today?
