DE Season 2026/27

Nathan the Wise

by Lena Gorelik / Gotthold Ephraim Lessing
Young Theatre· World premiere

Nathan lives in a world in which religion is simultaneously smoke screen and driving force of violence. Yet Nathan has a love for his fellow humans, is patient and benign with others. He defends the equality of different faiths.

Writer and director Kristo Šagor’s production of »Nathan the Wise« is his introduction to the audience as the new Director of Young Theatre. Award-winning writer Lena Gorelik has revisited Lessing’s classic with a new version for Heidelberg in which she transports the conflict between the three monotheistic world religions into the present day. After all, religion is still called on to justify conflicts over resources and territories as well as callous acts. The peaceful message of tolerance continues to be relevant.
