Sweeney Todd
Stephen Sondheim himself described »Sweeney Todd« as a »black operetta« and took inspiration for his ominous and thrilling music from a number of chilling Hollywood soundtracks. His thrilling choirs, gripping ensembles and devoted ballads render every performance an unforgettable experience.
It’s eerie on the dark streets of London; people are disappearing one by one. What happened? The barber Benjamin Barker lived a happy life with his wife Lucy and daughter Johanna – until judge Turpin unjustly sentenced him and sent him into exile, because he wanted Lucy for himself. Fifteen years later, Johanna is living with Turpin as his ward. Benjamin returns, using the name Sweeney Todd. He is intent on revenge.
This new production of Sondheim’s thriller is multiple award-winning director Immo Karaman’s first show at Theater & Orchester Heidelberg.
