DE Season 2026/27

Heidelberger Stückemarkt

The Festival for Contemporary Theatre

23 April to 2 May 2027

Heidelberger Stückemarkt, the festival for contemporary theatre, has been a place of lively social debate and aesthetic exploration since 1984. It continues to shape Theater & Orchester Heidelberg’s artistic approach and invites the audience to discover new perspectives on stage and in society.

The festival shows visiting productions of current premieres from throughout the German-speaking sphere. Theatre creatives give stage readings to present new texts. Each year features a different guest country to add international perspectives to the programme; our guest in 2027 is Czechia.

The festival centrepiece is the Autor*innenwettbewerb award for playwrights with a main prize of 10,000 euros. In addition, the Jugendstückepreis distinguishes theatre for young persons, the Nachspielpreis honours second or third productions of plays and last but not least the Publikumspreis is awarded by the audience. Finally, the FIDENA Stückepreis adds a puppet theatre prize to the festival.

The full programme is available at the start of pre-sales in spring 2027.

Thank you to the Heidelberg entrepreneurs and couple Bettina Schies and Klaus Korte (†) – KORTE Bauteile GmbH, the Manfred Lautenschläger-Stiftung and the Freundeskreis des Theaters & Orchesters Heidelberg for their generous support. Sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Art.
